Powering Nigeria’s Renewable Ambition: Tranos Signs MOU for 800 MW Solar Plant. Oct 28, 2025 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Copy link At the Stanford Seed Network, we celebrate African enterprises driving transformation through innovation and leadership. One such company is Tranos , a Nigerian engineering and manufacturing leader headed by Jude Abalaka , whose visionary approach continues to shape the nation’s industrial and energy landscape. In a decisive step toward Nigeria’s renewable future, Tranos recently announced a landmark collaboration for the development of an 800 MW solar power manufacturing facility , a move that strengthens the country’s clean energy drive and underscores the company’s role as a catalyst for sustainable industrial progress. Renowned for its expertise in power protection systems, cable solutions, and industrial infrastructure integration, Tranos has consistently championed local innovation and production. Under Abalaka’s leadership, the company is expanding its footprint into renewable energy manufacturing, aligning its growth with Nigeria’s pursuit of energy independence and sustainable development. Shifting Gears: From Engineering to Solar Manufacturing Recently, at the Nigeria Renewable Energy Innovation Forum (NREIF) 2025, Tranos sealed a pivotal agreement through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Ogun State Government for the development of an 800 MW solar panel manufacturing campus in Ogun State. This move is strategic because it demonstrates both ambition and alignment with Nigeria’s long-term goals of reducing import dependence and increasing local energy capacity. The facility, which will cover more than 157,000 square meters, aims to kick off operations with an initial 400 MW capacity within the first 15 to 18 months, scaling to the full 800 MW by 2027. To support this growth, Tranos plans to relocate and consolidate its existing Lagos manufacturing operations and expand activities at the new campus. This expansion is expected to generate significant employment opportunities, growing the workforce from around 160 to nearly 400 people over the coming years. It will also stimulate growth across supply chains and local communities. The project reinforces Nigeria’s solar ambitions at a time when over 90% of photovoltaic panels in the country are imported, a challenge this new facility seeks to address. At the groundbreaking, Mr. Abalaka noted that this isn’t just about building capacity but about investing in Africa’s industrial future. He spoke about the systemic challenges in the renewable energy space and emphasized the importance of localizing production to ensure affordability, quality, and resilience. Meanwhile, government representatives, including the Ogun State Governor’s office and the REA, praised the collaboration as essential to Nigeria’s energy transition and the drive for greater local content. A New Chapter for Tranos and Nigeria’s Energy Future Tranos’ leap from a diversified engineering and electrical firm into large-scale solar manufacturing marks a significant moment in Africa’s energy story. The future is local, and Tranos is showing that manufacturing, innovation, and sustainability can advance together. As the new facility becomes operational, it will reshape power dynamics in Nigeria, reduce import dependency, create skilled jobs, and strengthen the renewable energy ecosystem. For members and readers following the transformation of African enterprises, this milestone is a testament to how ambition can meet impact. The Tranos story continues to be one worth watching as the company powers a brighter and more sustainable future for Nigeria and the continent at large. This achievement reflects the vision, courage, and innovation driving Africa’s next generation of business leaders. Through strategic investments and a commitment to local content, Tranos is helping power a cleaner, stronger, and more self-reliant Nigeria. We’re proud to spotlight this milestone and encourage members to follow Tranos’ journey as they continue shaping the continent’s renewable energy landscape. - How Stanford Seed Network Nigeria’s IWD Webinar Series Equipped Women to Build Real Businesses | Seed Network Nigeria
How Stanford Seed Network Nigeria’s IWD Webinar Series Equipped Women to Build Real Businesses Mar 31, 2026 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Copy link This year, in celebration of International Women’s Day, Stanford Seed Network Nigeria curated a powerful webinar series designed to move women entrepreneurs beyond ideas, and into execution, structure, and growth. Across three focused sessions, participants engaged with experienced founders and industry leaders, gaining practical insights on how to build businesses that are not only profitable, but sustainable. Each session tackled a critical stage of the entrepreneurial journey: execution, discipline, and collaboration. Turning Plans into Action The series opened with Seyi Abolaji, Co-founder of Wilson’s Juice Company, who led a session on “Operations and Execution: Turning Your Business Plan into Action.” His session addressed a challenge many founders faced, having a clear vision, but struggling to implement it effectively. Participants learned the importance of: Prioritizing high-impact tasks that drove real outcomes Breaking down strategy into actionable daily steps Ensuring team alignment and focus Connecting daily operations to long-term business goals The message was clear: execution was what transformed ideas into results. Building Structure Through Discipline The second session, led by Taibat Dayo-Amzat, Founder/CEO of Zenfix Limited, focused on “Discipline is Feminine: Structured Execution in Building a Real Business.” Here, participants were challenged to rethink what it meant to run a business. Taibat emphasized that real businesses were built on: Systems and documented processes Proper financial records and accountability Clear roles and operational structure She highlighted a powerful truth: if a business could not run without the founder, it was not yet a business, it was self-employment. For many attendees, this session served as both a reality check and a roadmap for building businesses that could grow, scale, and attract opportunities. Growing Through Collaboration The series concluded with Funto Boroffice, Founder/CEO of Chanja Datti, who introduced a refreshing perspective in her session, “Give to Gain: Shifting from Competitive to Collaborative Business Models.” Addressing the realities of operating in saturated markets, Funto challenged the traditional mindset of competition and encouraged entrepreneurs to embrace collaboration as a growth strategy. Participants were introduced to the idea of strategic generosity, sharing value in ways that expanded visibility, unlocked opportunities, and drove mutual growth. Her message reframed success, showing that growth was not only about outperforming others, but about building with others. A Series Designed for Real Impact Together, these sessions formed a powerful learning journey — equipping women with the tools to: Execute effectively Build structured, scalable businesses Leverage collaboration for growth Beyond inspiration, the webinar series focused on practical, real-world strategies that participants could immediately apply to their businesses. Looking Ahead: The Grand Finale With the webinar series successfully concluded, we extend our sincere appreciation to all participants who showed up, engaged, and committed to learning throughout the sessions. - SUITE Training Recap: Building Brand Resilience in Times of Change | Seed Network Nigeria
SUITE Training Recap: Building Brand Resilience in Times of Change Apr 28, 2026 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Copy link What makes a brand survive uncertainty, and more importantly, what makes it win after it? At the recent SUITE Training held on Saturday, the 18th of April, 2026, at Greenpeg Engineering HQ in Lagos, Stanford Seed Nigeria hosted an in-depth and highly practical session led by Temitope Louis, MD/CEO of TradeEdge Limited. The focus was clear and timely: how to build resilient brands in times of change . Beyond the theme, what unfolded was a powerful breakdown of how identity, branding, and brand perception work together and why getting them right is non-negotiable for long-term growth. It starts with identity The session opened with a foundational question: What is identity? Identity was defined as the visible and tangible expression of a brand , what a business controls and presents to the world. This includes elements such as name, logo, colour, typography, tagline, and overall visual style. More importantly, identity is not just design; it is intention made visible. It is how a business chooses to be seen and remembered. Without clarity at this level, everything else becomes inconsistent. Branding is the work. Brand is the result. One of the most important distinctions made during the session was this: Identity is what you create Branding is what you do Brand is what people perceive Branding was described as an ongoing process, one that involves shaping perception through clear value propositions, strong messaging, consistent experiences, and intentional delivery. And at the end of that process? A brand is formed... not by the business, but in the minds of customers. This is where many businesses get it wrong. They focus on activities without understanding the outcome they are trying to shape. What do customers really associate with you? Using global examples like Toyota (reliability), Apple (innovation), and Nike (empowerment), the session highlighted a critical truth: Strong brands are not random; they are clearly associated with something specific . Customers return not just because of what you sell, but because of what your brand represents in their lives. Whether it is: Saving time Delivering quality Elevating status Providing care Driving personal growth These associations are what build trust, loyalty, and long-term relevance. The power of brand equity The conversation then moved into the financial and strategic value of strong brands: Brand equity . When a brand is trusted and clearly positioned, the results are measurable: Customers are willing to pay more (premium pricing power) Loyalty increases, reducing acquisition costs Market value improves through investor confidence Recovery from crises becomes faster and more effective In essence, brand equity is not just perception; it is performance. Understanding resilience in business Resilience was described as the ability to withstand, adapt, recover, and grow in the face of disruption. When applied to brands, it goes deeper. A resilient brand is one that: Maintains trust during uncertainty Adjusts its value proposition and messaging when needed Recovers from reputational or operational setbacks Continues to strengthen customer loyalty despite challenges Importantly, resilience is not reactive but is built intentionally over time. How resilient brands respond to change The session outlined practical ways brands demonstrate resilience in real time: Critical engagement: Identifying real threats and challenges early Market awareness: Observing trends and learning from competitors Customer-centric response: Adjusting pricing, communication, and delivery Asset evaluation: Repurposing existing resources to meet new demands Narrative control: Managing perception through clear and transparent communication Innovation under pressure: Creating new solutions in response to disruption These are actionable strategies you can begin to implement today. The resilience models: No one-size-fits-all One of the most practical parts of the session was the introduction of four resilience models, illustrated through real companies: Adaptability (Mikano Group): Flexibility in navigating local challenges Control (Dangote Group): Dominance through ownership of the value chain Innovation (Siemens): Growth through technology and systems thinking Integration (Samsung): Scale and strength through vertical integration Each model comes with its strengths and risks, reinforcing a key insight: No single strategy fits all businesses. The environment determines the approach. The resilience maturity ladder Rather than choosing one model, businesses were encouraged to see resilience as a progression: Adapt → Control → Innovate → Integrate For many Nigerian businesses, the journey starts with adaptability, learning to navigate a challenging environment before gradually building control, investing in innovation, and eventually integrating systems for scale. Strategic reflection for business leaders As the session drew to a close, participants were challenged to reflect on critical questions: Are you solving a real problem or chasing trends? Do you control your value chain or depend heavily on others? Can your business adapt quickly, or does structure constrain it? Are you building for where the world is going or where it has been? These are strategic and defining questions. Final takeaway Resilience is built, not inherited. It is the result of intentional decisions, consistent actions, and a deep understanding of both your brand and your environment. In times of change, the brands that last are not the loudest, but the most prepared. We appreciate all members and guests who joined us for this impactful session. Your presence and engagement made the conversations richer and more meaningful. We look forward to seeing you at our next SUITE Training on June 20. - Member Focus: Oyaje Idoko, The Visionary Powering Nigeria's Digital Future | Seed Network Nigeria
Member Focus: Oyaje Idoko, The Visionary Powering Nigeria's Digital Future Oct 22, 2025 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Copy link When you meet Oyaje Idoko , it doesn’t take long to notice that he leads with purpose. As the CEO and Founder of Layer3 , one of Nigeria’s foremost cloud and IT solutions companies, Oyaje is known not only for his technical brilliance but also for his grounded philosophy on leadership, family, and impact. Long before founding Layer3, his curiosity for technology began at just 12 years old, a spark that would later shape a lifelong mission to use innovation as a force for good. Beyond his achievements in Nigeria’s ICT space, Oyaje’s story is one of resilience, intentionality, and balance, a journey defined as much by personal values as professional milestones. In this Member Focus feature, Oyaje shares the experiences that shaped his path, the lessons learned through challenges, and the quiet philosophies that continue to guide his purpose. A throwback picture of Oyaje in 2016 Q: Looking back, what experiences (personal or professional) do you think shaped who you are today? A: My early exposure to a computer at age 12 sparked the curiosity that set me on my lifelong path. I taught myself BASIC, the popular programming language of that era, and was fascinated by how a few lines of code could bring ideas to life. That moment shaped my resolve to study Computer Engineering, a goal I pursued unwaveringly until I achieved it, eventually graduating with a major in Communications Engineering and a minor in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Beyond academics, I grew up as an extremely curious and inquisitive child, always seeking to understand why things worked the way they did and how they could be better. That curiosity evolved into an entrepreneurial mindset and a desire to solve problems through innovation. Today, I keep saying, “Curiosity holds the key to some of the greatest advancements”. My father also played a profound role in shaping me. From him, I learned discipline, humility, and the importance of balance between family, work, and spiritual life. He modelled consistency in prayer, self-care, and love for family. Those early lessons still guide how I lead today: with structure, compassion, and purpose. Oyaje in 2025 Q: What’s one challenge or turning point that truly tested you, and what did it reveal about you? A: One of the most defining moments in my professional life was when our company suffered a massive cyberattack that crippled parts of our cloud infrastructure and disrupted critical customer services. It was a deeply unsettling two-week period: high pressure, sleepless nights, and enormous responsibility, especially since many of our customers run mission-critical systems on our platform. That experience taught me patience, that no matter how desperate we are to fix a situation, some things must take their natural course. It also taught me gratitude; amidst the chaos, was thankful that it was only systems that were compromised, not lives. Most importantly, it revealed to me that I could remain calm, rational, and empathetic under intense pressure. I learned that leadership is not just about solving problems but providing stability when everything around you is uncertain. Operations at Layer3 Q: Is there a personal philosophy or belief that quietly guides how you make decisions or lead your life? A: Yes. I believe there’s no known competition against excellence. I’ve learned that even the most mundane tasks, when done with precision and care, can produce exceptional outcomes. That philosophy drives how I lead and how I live, striving to do things well, not because anyone is watching, but because excellence, once embedded, becomes part of your DNA. I also live by a strong sense of purpose, knowing that we are all called to make an impact and to leave the world better than we met it. And because life is finite, that impact must be made within a limited time. It’s a reminder that purpose is not something to be postponed; it’s something to be lived out daily, through how we work, lead, and serve others. Q: How do you define success for yourself now, and how different is that definition from when you first started out? A: In my early years, success meant achievement: reaching goals, building something from nothing, hitting financial milestones, and earning recognition. But over time, that definition has evolved. Today, success means peace of mind and joy, knowing that I’m living out my purpose, adding value to others, and building something sustainable that outlives me. It’s about creating impact, not just income; influence, not just infrastructure. I’ve learned that true success is balance, between ambition and gratitude, achievement and contentment. Oyaje and Staff of Layer3 Q: What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you, something outside of work that reflects who you are? A: People are often surprised to learn how deeply family-centred I am. I could cut short a business trip just to return home to my wife and children. Family grounds me; it reminds me of what truly matters. Time passes quickly, and I’m intentional about creating memories, not just milestones. They’re also often surprised to know that I have a strong passion for epic and war movies. The best of these films is, to me, masterclasses in leadership: courage, strategy, loyalty, and sacrifice; lessons I consciously carry into my personal and professional life. I also enjoy reading and have spent hundreds of hours listening to podcasts on a wide range of subjects, each of which has quietly but profoundly shaped who I am today. Q: If you could sit with your younger self for five minutes, what would you tell him? A: I would tell him to build and nurture relationships early. Social capital is as valuable as financial capital, and your network will often open doors that your credentials alone cannot. I’d also tell him to be bold and act. Fear is often the final barrier before a breakthrough. Some of life’s greatest accomplishments are waiting on the other side of hesitation. Q: What role has community played in your growth, and how has being part of the Stanford Seed Network shaped your journey? A: Community has been instrumental in my growth, both personally and professionally. Every major milestone in my journey has involved people who believed, supported, or challenged me. The Stanford Seed Network, in particular, has been a transformational community. It expanded my perspective on leadership, governance, and scaling impact across Africa. The network is not just a platform for learning; it’s a circle of like-minded changemakers committed to building resilient African enterprises. It reinforced my conviction that entrepreneurship is not a solo sport; it’s a relay. You grow faster when you grow with others. Q: Finally, what’s one lesson or reminder you try to live by, something that keeps you aligned with your purpose? A: That life is finite, and no matter how long we live, it will always feel too short. So, live intentionally. Do good. Make an impact. Remember, you’re not here just for yourself. Each day is an opportunity to create something meaningful, to uplift others, and to fill the lives of those closest to you with joy and beautiful memories. When I remember that, everything else: work, ambition, achievement, finds its proper place. Layer3 For Oyaje Idoko , success is no longer measured by milestones, but by meaning. The peace of mind that comes from living with purpose and using one’s gifts to uplift others. His reflections remind us that leadership is not just about what we build, but about who we become and the lives we touch along the way. As a member of the Stanford Seed Transformation Network , Oyaje embodies the spirit of purposeful entrepreneurship, leading with excellence, grounded in community, and driven by impact. - Member in the News: Obalolu Ojo Reflects on Nigeria’s 2026 Health Budget | Seed Network Nigeria
Member in the News: Obalolu Ojo Reflects on Nigeria’s 2026 Health Budget Mar 30, 2026 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Copy link A recent thought-provoking article by Obalolu Ojo titled “2026 Health Budget: 4% — A Number That Demands Reflection” has sparked conversation around the future of healthcare funding in Nigeria. Obalolu Ojo, Founder/CEO, Merit Healthcare Limited. In the piece, published by Leadership Newspaper , Ojo examines the federal government’s proposed 2026 budget and highlights a critical point: while the overall national budget continues to grow, the allocation to healthcare remains around 4% of total expenditure . The article calls attention to the implications of this figure, particularly in relation to the Abuja Declaration , which recommends that African countries dedicate at least 15% of their national budgets to health . Through his analysis, Ojo encourages policymakers, stakeholders, and citizens to look beyond the numbers and consider what they represent for millions of Nigerians who depend on the country’s healthcare system. A health budget that falls significantly below global and continental benchmarks raises important questions about the sustainability of public health infrastructure, access to quality medical care, and the long-term well-being of the population. The article also emphasizes that health financing is not simply a policy debate, it directly affects maternal and child health services, disease prevention programs, health worker retention, and the ability of hospitals and clinics to function effectively . With Nigeria’s population continuing to grow rapidly, thoughtful conversations about how healthcare is funded are becoming increasingly urgent. By raising these points, Ojo’s article contributes to a broader national dialogue about how governments prioritize healthcare within their fiscal policies and what steps are needed to ensure stronger health systems for the future. About Obalolu Ojo Obalolu Ojo is a respected health policy advocate and public health professional whose work focuses on strengthening healthcare systems and improving policy outcomes in Nigeria.
