Created to Create Value: Key Lessons from the November SUITE Training with Seyi Abolaji Dec 16, 2025 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Copy link On 22nd November, 2025 , members of the network gathered for an impactful Suite Training session led by Seyi Abolaji , Founder of Wilson’s Juice Company . The session, themed “Created to Create Value: Business and Leadership Development – Calling, Success, and Healthy Habits,” was a deeply reflective and practical conversation on purpose, leadership, and sustainable growth in the marketplace. Drawing from his personal journey and years of entrepreneurial experience, Seyi challenged participants to rethink conventional ideas of success and to intentionally align their work, habits, and leadership with long-term impact. From Humble Beginnings to Purposeful Leadership Seyi opened the session by sharing his personal story, one marked by resilience, self-awareness, and reinvention. Born in Nigeria and raised in the United States under difficult circumstances, he explained how excellence in athletics, academics, and leadership earned him a place at Stanford University, reinforcing the idea that grades alone are never enough. After a short-lived professional football career and multiple failed attempts abroad, Seyi faced a defining moment: the realization that talent without clarity would not lead to impact. A question posed by one of his Stanford mentors, “Will you live a life of comfort or a life of impact?” , became the foundation for the decisions that followed. Returning to Nigeria, Seyi experienced multiple business failures before starting Wilson’s Juice Company with just ₦2,000 . Today, Wilson’s Juice has grown into an international brand, expanding further into technology through DALA Technologies , a shared services platform supporting African businesses at scale. The Marketplace as a Calling, Not a Compromise A major theme of the session was the marketplace as a legitimate and powerful platform for purpose and service . Seyi reframed work as ministry, drawing attention to the fact that Jesus Himself spent most of His time in the marketplace, not isolated from society. He outlined five core ministry expressions and their modern-day market equivalents: Entrepreneurs as creators who build from nothing and forge new paths Salespeople as communicators who drive action and influence Managers as shepherds who guide systems and people Leaders as teachers who bring clarity and growth HR and culture builders as pastors who nurture environments and people The message was clear: comparison is a distraction , and true fulfillment comes from understanding and committing to one’s unique assignment. Redefining Success: Joy Over Noise Seyi challenged traditional definitions of success, emphasizing that success is an internal experience , not an external measurement. Titles, income, and possessions are outcomes, not the goal. He distinguished between happiness , which is circumstantial, and joy , which is sustained and rooted in alignment with purpose. According to him, it is impossible to feel successful when one’s work, values, and growth are misaligned. Building a Foundation for Inevitable Success: A.E.I.O.U At the core of the training was a practical framework for personal and professional growth; A.E.I.O.U , five daily disciplines fully within an individual’s control: Appreciate: Recognize personal strengths while valuing others Encourage: Give energy and hope to yourself and those around you Initiate: Take responsibility and act without waiting to be told Overcome: Push past fear, doubt, and setbacks Understand: Commit to learning, curiosity, and mentorship These practices, Seyi emphasized, are not optional suggestions but non-negotiable habits for growth . From Intention to Impact Building on this foundation, participants were encouraged to adopt five guiding principles for real-world success, including being deliberate with actions, separating learning from salary, and measuring value by tangible impact such as increased sales, generated cash, or reduced costs. A particularly striking takeaway was the balance between faith and action: “Faith without action is dead, but action without direction is waste.” Members were reminded that progress comes from starting, learning, improving, and moving forward, not from waiting for perfection. Sustaining Success Through Healthy Habits Recognizing that growth without health is unsustainable, Seyi highlighted five non-negotiable health habits essential for long-term impact: Adequate sleep and rest Natural eating and hydration Consistent physical movement Intentional spiritual time Quality family and relationship time Neglecting the body, mind, or spirit, he warned, ultimately slows purpose and destiny. Final Charge: Choosing Calling Over Comfort As the session drew to a close, participants were reminded that comfort is easy, but calling requires intention . The marketplace is not a distraction from purpose, it is often where purpose is fully expressed. The training ended with a robust Q&A session, allowing members to reflect, challenge ideas, and clarify insights, reinforcing the session’s emphasis on growth through honest dialogue and action. IBWA's humble beginning in 2014 When Inqaba biotec West Africa opened its doors a decade ago, it marked more than just the arrival of a company, it signaled the rise of an indigenous, Pan-African force committed to transforming life sciences and genomics across West and Central Africa. Now, ten years later, the company stands not just as a witness to the region's scientific evolution but as a driving engine behind it. This anniversary offers the perfect opportunity to reflect on IBWA's journey, celebrate its successes, and cast a vision for the future. From Humble Beginnings to Regional Relevance Established in 2014 and becoming fully operational in 2015, Inqaba biotec West Africa (IBWA) started from modest beginnings. Headquartered at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan, Nigeria, the team began its journey providing vital genomics products, sequencing services, and molecular biology support to researchers, universities, and life science community. What truly set IBWA apart from the onset was its blend of local insight and global standards. While many organizations focused on importing ready-made solutions, IBWA embedded itself in local scientific communities, offering training, consultation, and customer-specific support. By 2018, the company had grown enough to move into its own purpose-built facility across from IITA. This symbolic transition highlighted not just infrastructural growth but IBWA's commitment to rooting scientific progress within African soil. Empowering the Scientific Community One of IBWA's core contributions over the years has been capacity building. Recognizing that technology alone isn't enough, the company invested in training workshops across Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, and beyond. Researchers, lab technologists, and students were trained in basic molecular techniques, phylogenetics, bioinformatics, Sanger sequencing, and other data analysis tools. During the COVID-19 pandemic, IBWA's relevance was underscored in real-time. The company provided reagents, guidance, and services that supported large-scale testing across West Africa. In a decisive step toward Nigeria’s renewable future, Tranos recently announced a landmark collaboration for the development of an 800 MW solar power manufacturing facility , a move that strengthens the country’s clean energy drive and underscores the company’s role as a catalyst for sustainable industrial progress. The facility, which will cover more than 157,000 square meters, aims to kick off operations with an initial 400 MW capacity within the first 15 to 18 months, scaling to the full 800 MW by 2027. To support this growth, Tranos plans to relocate and consolidate its existing Lagos manufacturing operations and expand activities at the new campus. This expansion is expected to generate significant employment opportunities, growing the workforce from around 160 to nearly 400 people over the coming years. It will also stimulate growth across supply chains and local communities. The project reinforces Nigeria’s solar ambitions at a time when over 90% of photovoltaic panels in the country are imported, a challenge this new facility seeks to address. At the groundbreaking, Mr. Abalaka noted that this isn’t just about building capacity but about investing in Africa’s industrial future. He spoke about the systemic challenges in the renewable energy space and emphasized the importance of localizing production to ensure affordability, quality, and resilience. In this interview, Brian shares insights into the Chapter's role in the Summit, the planning process, and what attendees can expect. Let’s hear from him! Brian Hammond Q: Can you introduce yourself to the SSTN community? Tell us a bit about your background and your role as the Chairman of the South African Summit Planning Committee. A: My name is Brian Hammond, and I’m currently a Director at Impact Hub Lagos, an entrepreneurship hub that inspires, connects, and enables entrepreneurs to grow and scale sustainable businesses that make a positive impact in the world. My journey with Stanford Seed began in 2018 when I joined the Stanford Seed Transformation Program (STP) as part of Cohort 9 while serving as the CEO of IMC Plantations Ltd., the largest oil palm plantation and mill in Delta State. I’m proud to share that the company was successfully sold in 2023. From October 2020 to October 2024, I had the privilege of serving as the President of the Stanford Seed Nigeria Network. This role allowed me to work closely with our incredible members and deepen my connection with our vibrant community. On a personal note, I enjoy reading and socializing, and my educational background includes qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Finance, Chartered Accountancy, and Psychology—a mix that has shaped my approach to leadership and problem-solving. As the Chairman of the 2025 Seed Summit Planning Committee (Cape Town), my primary responsibility is to lead the committee in ensuring that Nigerian participants have a smooth experience attending the summit while making sure it is a resounding success for everyone involved. This involves close collaboration with the Nigerian Seed Executive Committee, Stanford Seed Nigeria administration, and Stanford Seed Global leadership. Some of the key responsibilities of the Summit Planning Committee include: Guiding network members through the South African visa application process by providing all necessary information and ensuring deadlines are met. Sharing details on cost-effective and convenient flight options to South Africa. Keeping members updated with accurate information, guidelines, and announcements from Stanford Seed regarding the summit. Coordinating group airport pickups in South Africa based on members’ arrival dates. Promoting a strong Nigerian presence at the summit by planning unique activities that showcase our chapter’s energy and creativity. Serving as a point of contact for any questions or concerns members may have about attending the summit. Fostering a sense of community among attendees by encouraging collaboration, support, and shared learning experiences during the event. Collecting feedback after the summit to understand members’ experiences and provide insights for future event planning. Encouraging attendees to leverage connections made at the summit for ongoing business development within the Stanford Seed community. Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that every Nigerian participant feels supported throughout this process and returns from Cape Town with meaningful connections, new knowledge, and inspiration to drive their businesses forward. Q: Organizing a summit of this scale is no small task. Can you give us a behind-the-scenes look at what the planning process has been like? A: This year’s Seed Summit has by far the largest interest from our members (77 Members and guests), partly due to Cape Town (South Africa) being one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, and our network is so vibrant and willing to explore to meet new people and take advantage of new opportunities across Africa. Q: Can you share any details about keynote speakers, special sessions, or networking opportunities available? A: Like all the previous Stanford Seed Summits, we have a great lineup of GSB faculty and speakers. Some have taught us before, like Jesper Sorensen (Prof. of Organisational Behaviour) and Sarah Soule (New Dean of Stanford GSB). We also have new speakers such as Matt Abrahams (Organisational Behaviour Lecturer) and S. Christian Wheeler (Prof. of Marketing and Prof. of Management). Q: What advice would you give to first-time attendees on how to make the most out of the event? A: First-time attendees should plan in advance what they want to get out of the Summit and trip to Cape Town in general. Network members know the types of businesses they want to be introduced to, and also be open to brand new opportunities they never thought of by introducing themselves and networking with people who are not in their current sectors. Interesting collaborations in the future can cope with this. Attending all Summit events, including the “Company Excursions in Cape Town” is also important to get the most out of the trip. The Summit Committee will communicate fun group sightseeing and other activities that we can do together after the Summit ends on Saturday 5th April. Q: With the summit just around the corner, what’s your message to Network members and potential attendees? A: This year Seed Summit will be the largest ever, with over 500 attendees in total from all Network countries and California. This is a tremendous opportunity to have world-class learning from Stanford GSB faculty, increase our business network collaboration opportunities, expand into new products and markets, and make new lifelong friendships.
