A significant milestone has been recorded in Nigeria’s journey toward a more sustainable and circular economy, and Seed Nigeria member, Olufunto Boroffice, is at the center of it.
Chanja Datti Recycling Company Limited, the waste management and recycling enterprise founded by Olufunto Boroffice, has been selected to manage the newly commissioned Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) Plastic Recycling Facility in Jabi, Abuja. The facility was officially handed over through a collaboration involving the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Government of Japan, and key government stakeholders under the project, Promoting Sustainable Plastic Value Chains through Circular Economy Practices.

The commissioning represents more than the launch of a new recycling center. It is a major step toward addressing one of Nigeria’s most pressing environmental challenges; plastic waste pollution, while creating economic opportunities within the recycling value chain.
The facility is expected to collect and process approximately 1,200 tonnes of plastic waste annually, improving the collection, sorting, aggregation, and recycling of plastic materials across the Federal Capital Territory. Equipped with modern infrastructure including crushing and baling equipment, collection tricycles, and digital data systems, the center is designed to serve as a scalable model for other cities across Nigeria.
For Chanja Datti, being selected to manage the facility is a strong endorsement of the company’s years of leadership in advancing sustainable waste management solutions and building practical circular economy systems.
Founded by Olufunto Boroffice, Chanja Datti has become one of Nigeria’s leading recycling and environmental sustainability enterprises. Since its establishment, the company has transformed millions of kilograms of recyclable waste into valuable resources while creating green jobs and economic opportunities for women, youth, and informal waste collectors. Through innovative initiatives that convert waste into income-generating opportunities, the company has demonstrated that environmental sustainability and economic development can go hand in hand.
Under Olufunto’s leadership, Chanja Datti has grown beyond a recycling company into a platform for social and environmental transformation.

A former executive with extensive international experience and a passionate advocate for the circular economy, she has dedicated her work to creating systems that reduce waste, protect the environment, and improve livelihoods. Her contributions to sustainability, climate action, and economic empowerment have earned recognition both within Nigeria and internationally.
During the commissioning ceremony, a live recycling demonstration showcased the facility’s operational process, from waste intake and sorting to processing and storage, bringing the concept of a circular economy to life for attendees.

The demonstration highlighted how waste materials that would otherwise contribute to environmental pollution can be transformed into valuable economic resources.
The achievement is particularly important for Nigeria’s economy as the country continues to seek sustainable solutions to waste management challenges while creating employment opportunities in emerging green industries. Facilities such as the AEPB Plastic Recycling Centre strengthen local recycling value chains, support small-scale waste collectors, reduce pressure on landfills, and contribute to a more resource-efficient economy.
As governments, development partners, and private-sector organizations increasingly embrace circular economy principles, companies like Chanja Datti are proving that innovation, entrepreneurship, and environmental responsibility can work together to drive meaningful impact.
We celebrate Olufunto Boroffice and the entire Chanja Datti team on this remarkable achievement and their continued commitment to transforming waste into value, creating economic opportunities, and building a cleaner, more sustainable future for Nigeria.
